One Year of Prabowo–Gibran: A Failing Grade from the Public
CELIOS has released the results of its One-Year Performance Evaluation of the Prabowo–Gibran Government, assessing program achievements, leadership, budget governance, policy communication, and law enforcement. The evaluation was conducted through a panel survey of 120 journalists from 60 national media outlets and a public survey of 1,338 respondents across Indonesia.
The results show failing grades in nearly every sector. Prabowo Subianto scored 3 out of 10, Gibran Rakabuming Raka 2 out of 10, the National Police (Polri) 2 out of 10, and the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) 3 out of 10. A total of 56 percent of the public said that only a small portion of political promises had been fulfilled, while 43 percent said none had been fulfilled at all. Prabowo’s electability fell by 34 percent due to the gap between promises and policies.
The government’s performance was rated poor by 72 percent of respondents (43 percent poor and 29 percent very poor), while 80 percent said policies did not meet the public’s needs and 64 percent rated the quality of leadership as low. Regarding governance and policy communication, 81 percent said budget management was not transparent, and 91 percent rated government communication as poor or very poor.
In the area of law, 75 percent of the public said law enforcement had become increasingly ineffective, and 43 percent said anti-corruption efforts were ineffective. Security-sector reform was seen as not yet underway, while Polri and TNI were considered to still be operating with a repressive approach.
In the economy, 84 percent of respondents said taxes and government levies were burdensome, and 53 percent said economic stimulus and assistance did not help meet their daily needs. The gap between fiscal policy and people’s real-life circumstances is increasingly evident, especially for the middle and lower classes.
Most of the public are calling for a change in policy direction. A total of 96 percent support a cabinet reshuffle, 98 percent support reducing the number of ministries, and 58 percent say coordination between institutions is poor. The most urgent issues highlighted by the public are job creation (23.5 percent) and controlling the prices of basic necessities (22.4 percent).
