In this report, CELIOS develops several economic diversification strategies for Morowali and tests their potential using an IO model. The programs focus on strengthening the agriculture and fisheries sectors, as well as developing renewable energy. The results are promising: diversification could increase Central Sulawesi’s economic growth by an average of 8.83% per year over the next 20 years. Although this pace may not match the spectacular surge driven by nickel, this pathway offers stability and sustainability, with a smaller environmental footprint and less harm to local communities.
